Aquatics - Kayaking-115

An oversite was made with the amount of kayaks that we have at camp.

Kayaking and Whitewater Rafting use the same boats. This means we will need to move the Friday AM Kayaking 115 session to Wednesday afternoon at 2pm.

They will be moved to that Session Kayaking 213 AND they will need to add a Friday AM class prior to coming to camp OR Sunday at Check-IN (if pasted the cut off).

Looking at the Aquatics Merit Badge schedule there is 1 Kayaking Class on Tuesday morning for Weeks 1 & 4

We are in NEED of a Instructor & Lifeguard for this class. If you are coming up weeks 1 or 4 OR know of someone that would be willing to volunteer to come up 1 or both of those days please let Alan or myself know ASAP

IF NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP OUT WE WILL NEED TO CANCEL THIS CLASS.

Merit Badge update

Posted 2022-05-09 17:32:18 by Camp Director

We're just inside of 6 weeks until Week 1!  We have done everything we can to increase class sizes and create new classes.  Please begin moving your Scouts into classes that aren't waitlisted.  Also, don't forget to make your payments for summer camp ASAP.  Please either mail or bring to the Scout office in person a check for your balance owed.  Because of increased fees, we can no longer accept credit card payments for summer camp payments.  Mail your payment to:

Mecklenburg County Council - BSA                                                                  Summer Camp Payment                                                                                  1410 East 7th Street                                                                                      Charlotte, NC  28204

Please make sure that your Troop number appears on the check and please put your week of camp in the memo field.

And finally, check your rosters and make sure you have deleted Scouts that aren't coming to camp.  You will be charged for campers still on your roster if they aren't deleted before you arrive at camp.

See ya soon!!

Alan

Cleaning up rosters and making payments

Posted 2022-05-04 18:27:41 by Camp Director

We're just 6 weeks away from the start of camp.  You can help us on the administrative side by doing 2 things right now.

  • Clean up our rosters.  If you downloaded your entire roster from a file, you may have Scouts listed on your camp roster that aren't coming to camp and they are currently showing on your Cost Report and you are being charged for them.  Please delete all Scouts from your camp rosters that are NOT coming to camp.

Payments for camp are now due.  You can make your payments one of two ways

  • Bring a check to the Scout office
  • Mail a check to the Scout office

Our mailing address is:

Mecklenburg County Council

1410 E. 7th Street

Charlotte, NC  28204                                                                            (please include your week of camp in the memo field so that we can properly credit your account)

Because of recent hikes in credit card fees, our front counter personel no longer accept credit cards for camp payments.

Yours in Scouting,  Alan

All,

We have moved COPE to Friday Morning.

If you have scouts that are eliegable to participate, and may be in a waiting list on Friday AM, they can sign-up for COPE if they would like!

We are also in the process of looking at class sizes and offereings for other Merit Badges on Friday AM.

Stay Tuned for more updates!

Clean up your rosters, please

Posted 2022-04-13 16:35:07 by Alan Keiger, Camp Director

In the coming weeks we will begin to physically get camp ready for Summer Camp.  One of the big things that our OA helps us with is getting our tents and cots put up in each of the campsites.  To do this, we need correct counts from each Troop.  Please clear all Scouts that are NOT going to be coming to camp from your rosters.  Also, please add all adults that WILL be coming you roster count.  This will help our ranger get the appropriate number of tents out of storage and ready for the OA to put up at our May Beaver Day event.

Also, start moving your Scouts off of waitlists and into classes.  We have gone in and done what we can to open new or expand classes based on our projected staffing capabilities and in certain cases, the amount of equipment we have that is needed.  My staff reports to camp in two months and it will be here before you know it!

Waitlist being addressed

Posted 2022-04-08 14:57:49 by Alan Keiger, Camp Director

We have gone through most of the classes that are have a waiting list and addressed those.  You will notice that some classes were able to expand and for others, we have created another class.  You will now need to begin moving Scouts into the open classes that have been provided.  This may also require moving them to other classes than previously granted to make their schedules work.  We still have a little work to do on Weeks 1 and 2 but I do not anticipate being able to add more classes.

Waitlist info

Posted 2022-04-05 17:04:23 by Alan Keiger, Camp Director

We will begin working on the waitlist this week.  In some cases, we'll be able to open current classes and in others we'll creat another class.  Usually because of staff and location needs, new classes tend to be offered at other times.  This will facillitate the need for some schedules to be reworked totally.  We will send out another message once we have done all we can do.  This process could take up to two weeks as we are continuing to try and hire more staff for the summer.  One we've finished our process, you will need to begin moving your Scouts off of waitlists and into open classes.  We thank you for your patience as we begin the process of doing what we can to clear out waitlists.

Early registrations deleted

Posted 2022-03-25 01:09:46 by Alan Keiger, Camp Director

Thursday afternoon we ran a load test on the registraction system. While the system was opened, a couple of you tried to jump ahead of everyone else and put your merit badge registration in the system.  Any registration for merit badges that were done early have been deleted in an effort to provide a fair opportunity for everyone.

I just wanted to clarify that MB registration is this Friday, March 25th in the following order:

  • Week 1 - 8am - 10am
  • Week 2 - 10am - Noon
  • Week 3 - Noon -2pm
  • Week 4 - 2pm - 4pm
  • Week 5 - 4pm-6pm

Registration day fast approaching

Posted 2022-03-21 16:55:56 by Alan Keiger, Camp Director

We're just 4 days away from our Merit Badge registration sign-ups.  Many of you have yet to upload your rosters into the mycampgrimes.org system.  For instructions on how to requests a copy of your roster from our registrar (out of council units will need to reach out to their own council's registrar), look on the main page of the camp website.  On the left hand side you will see a link in the first box under the videos that says 2022 Website notes.  Click on that link.  Friday's schedule for MB registrations is a follows-

  • Week 1, 8 a.m. - 10 a.m.
  • Week 2, 10 a.m. - NOON
  • Week 3, NOON - 2 p.m.
  • Week 4, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Week 5, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Remember, if you have a Scout that ends up on a waiting list, leave them there and do NOT put them in a seperate MB for that corresponding time.  Over the next few weeks we will begin clearing waitlist by either expanding classes where we can (please not that for COVID reason, some classes will remain small) and creating new classes as needed.  You will be notified when you should start to move your Scouts to other classes.  Good luck, and if you have any questions, please reach out ASAP.
